Paintings by Frans Hals
Frans Hals was an outstanding baroque painter born in Antwerp, who specialised mainly in portraits, but among his works there are also social scenes. He is best known for pictures presenting the images of residents of Haarlem, including members of corporations, regents, as well as his social life companions. At the beginning of his artistic path, Hals painted portraits beaming with vitality, perfectly showing facial expressions and gestures of the models, however without an in-depth psychological analysis. Later on, he focused on group portraits, and at the end of the artist's life, specific emotions began to appear on the faces of the portrayed figures, which were showing the discouragement and disappointment with the world. Frans Hals was an artist, who undoubtedly stood out from the other painters due to his spontaneity, naturalness and a great deal of nonchalance. He had an enormous influence on the creativity of next generations. His works inspired, among others, Vincent van Gogh. His most famous works were among others: The Gypsy Girl, Malle Babe, The Merry Drinker, or Young Man with a Skull, but they are only a small percentage of his paintings. Many of them are currently available in the form of perfect reproductions, which can be found in our store Bimago.
