Associated with the French post-impressionist group Les Nabis, Félix Vallotton was a Swiss-born French painter known for his precise use of lines and exacting forms. Vallotton conjured up the impression that there was something mysterious beneath his art. "I think I paint for people who are balanced but have an unspoken transgression deep within them", he once said. Today his paintings on canvas are among others in the collections of the finest museums and galleries, and reproductions of Felix Vallotton are also available in the bimago picture collection!

Felix Vallotton was a Swiss painter born in the mid-19th century in Lausanne. He received a good formal education, and he learned painting from the earliest years. Finally, he moved to Paris and he went to art college. In Lourve, he greatly admired works of the greatest painters in history and copied them. He became a member of the Salon, which brought him popularity. At first, he created also woodcuts and black and white modernist works. Thanks to the original form and engaged subject matter, he is considered as the precursor of French expressionism. He belonged to the Nabis, so he created paintings full of muted colours and spots, full of metaphors and symbols, which did not reflect the reality, but commented on it. Vallotton painted still art, landscapes and scenes from life. Portraits and nudes, both female and male, constitute a special category of his paintings. He painted over 500 female nudes. Women immortalized in them are devoid of emotion and have pale skin. They look very natural.
